He has already been working with sounds for many years but before the public found him, he had already recorded, experimented, and developed his sound.

The real name of Mavo is Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe. Some online biographies give the artist as Marvin Oseremen Ukanigbe, but both of these refer to the same artist. World renowned music magazine Billboard, one of the most dependable music news outlets internationally, noted him down as Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe.
His stage name is Mavo. He’s also connected to the likes of Mavoswago, Kilobizzy and Kilolo. The names linked here are associated with HIS personal branding, music and the creative language exhibited in HIS music.
His stage names are best known as “Mavo”. It is succinct, memorable & closely associated with his music first connection in Nigeria. He has other nicknames in his repertoire, all of which time and again find their way into his lyrics, posts and collaborations on social media outlets.
Bizzylingua is one of the main facets of Mavo’s artistic character. A set of words and expressions developed by Mavo and his friends when he was a student. The language was about inside jokes, street words and phrases, reflecting the environment.

He doesn’t want to be confined solely to one division. During an interview with WeTalkSound he shared his experiences with experimenting into trap, Afrobeats, drill and R&B. He likes to leave his music up to his own words and imagination.
That’s why the name Mavo is more than just a stage name. It is an effort on his part to create another sphere for his music. All of his slang, nicknames, songs and self-image belong to a brand.
Where is Mavo from?
Mavo is from Ekpoma in Edo state, Nigeria. Specifically, a number of Nigerian publications mentioned his family origin is from the Emaduo locality of Ekpoma. Another common description of him is being of Esan ethnic group.
Ekpoma is found in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. There is a distinct cultural identity and education and intellectual association with the town. Since Mavo was a native of Edo state, he has also absorbed the attitudes and philosophies of the people of Edo in his speech, as well as his writing and music taste.
He recalled that he was in Edo State for a number of years while in secondary school, during which he did not practice his profession, in an interview with WeTalkSound. He said this was an experience which gave him an insight in local language, culture and expressions. It also helped him to be more tolerant of slang and lyric by giving him a larger vocabulary.
During the secondary school years, Mavo was starting to compose music. He said he began writing seriously when he was in senior secondary school 1. then simply an interest in music. Composed lyric songs, played with phrases in a Nigerian pattern and attempted to integrate his expressions with the coded Nigerian language.
Later, he enrolled at Afe Babalola University, Ekiti State on his music journey following from the University of Ibadan. He first released songs to his friends’ and family’s ears as well as on SoundCloud. He didn’t start out with a major record label or an already established entertainment company.
While at university, his friends persuaded him to pursue music more seriously. He then took out some of his older records and began afresh. He could thus re-establish his online identity and show off his music more structured.
He began to turn his career around when his friends started to work with him more extensively. Escaladizzy wasn’t on his list of shows originally. During his interviews, he claims that he was persuaded to post a video of the song on TikTok by a friend. The response was much greater than he had anticipated.
WAVE$TAR was on the song and it rapidly caught on the Internet. It was finally officially released in June 2025. The track was Mavo’s first big hit, and he went on to make the world of music recognise his name.
“Escaladizzy” also made it onto the Official Afrobeats chart in the U.K. later in the year. The Official Chart website lists the song as charting at No. 6 when it made its peak charting appearance. It even remained a chart topping for several weeks.
A follow up version, “Escaladizzy II,” featured Ayra Starr, Shallipopi and Zlatan. It’s a chart-topping song on Official Afrobeats Chart (No.14). The remix put the song on the map and introduced Mavo to the larger concert-going crowds, positioning him among some of Nigeria’s popular young artists.
Other songs and collaborations were there to follow to ensure Mavo’s success in 2025. He has also joined in “Shakabulizzy”, a remix that incorporated Davido. He has also performed on “Money Constant” with DJ Maphorisa, DJ Tunez and Wizkid. Another big song was “BODY (danz)” (or “BODY” with CKay).
In one instance, three of Mavo’s songs soared to the positions of number one, number two and number three on Apple Music Nigeria Top Songs charts. The songs were ‘Money Constant’, ‘BODY (danz)’ and ‘Shakabulizzy’, with Davido.
In November 2025, Billboard named Mavo its African Rookie of the Month. His rise in the chart spotlight, international partnerships and audience grew, leading to the recognition.
Who is Mavo’s Girlfriend?
As of September 2026, there is no evidence that Mavo has a girlfriend. There have been no definitive reports in the media that he is dating someone and no date has yet confirmed that he is in a relationship.
